The twentieth Prom Art started with fine rain and a little wind. Ten artists from Bolton Art Circle and some from Warrington, Bury and Wigan joined many others.
Due to continuing rain some left after 11 am, but those who remained were rewarded when it stopped raining, the sun came out and visitors flocked to see the art and crafts on display.
The Mayor visited all the artists in the afternoon. It is hoped that each year the new Mayor will visit us in May and again at the first event of the season in April. We hope this will become a tradition each year.
This year we welcome 32 new artists and Grange can be proud to host this event. It is certainly enjoyed by the artists who appreciated having the opportunity to show their work.
Next month and for the rest of the season over 40 painters will show original paintings in oils, watercolour, acrylic or mixed media and labelled prints. Forty will offer crafts including photography, collage, cards, jewellery, ceramics, sculptures textiles, wood-turning and carvings.
They are all made by themselves or their friends.
On Monday April 30 the Evening Mail devoted ¾ page to this event and included four large photos (copy in office).
Jenny Lewis has written an independent article about Prom Art in the July issue of the Cumbria Magazine (out end June). Please do persuade all your friends to come and see for themselves. The artists deserve your support whatever the weather.
We are now fully booked, the event stretching from the Bayley Lane crossing to the old lido pool. We have a waiting list in case any vacancies occur due to holidays and weddings.
Booking for the 2009 season will commence on Sunday 31st August.
