Cumbria in Bloom is the county competition for the Britain in Bloom organisation. Grange-over-Sands has taken part in the competition for a number of years and has been a frequent winner. Grange-over-Sands won the small towns category in 2002,2004 and 2006. It was runner-up in 2005,2007 and 2008. Graythwaite Manor Hotel has won awards over many years. In 2008, the Cartmel Grange Care Home won the award for best residential home in Cumbria.
This year the competition is judged on 8th July. Entrants are marked for the following categories
- horticultural achievement
- environmental responsibility
- community practice
Within these categories the judges will be looking at
- overall impact
- horticultural practice
- residential and community gardening
- business area and premises
- green spaces
This year the awards ceremony will be held in Grange-over-Sands on 3rd September at the Graythwaite Manor Hotel. Entrants are given the judges’ assessments following their visit, and these are helpful in preparing for the following year. Last year, the judges noted “that many areas were of a high standard”.
